In this new body of work Indra Geidans continues an exploration into psychological states, highlighting the tension between the ordinary and the extraordinary.
She has a pre-occupation with what lies just beneath the surface of our everyday existence.
The figures in the paintings are often veiled by their own garments giving few clues as to their emotional state. This in turn transforms the body into a generic being, an anybody or everybody. These are figures trapped within themselves. These paintings are projections of our fears and our anxieties that hint at malaise and vulnerability. They speak of the spaces between situations. They exist as fragments of time in between moments with figures moving between inside and outside, light and shadow.
Indra uses tangible objects outside of the picture plane in some paintings, such as threads and fabrics, which hint at the meeting point between reality and illusion.
These images invite the viewer to breach the often uncomfortable space between voyeurism and contemplation.
