Melbourne artist Marcel Cousins' practice is underpinned by a theme of appropriation. His work samples and borrows from everyday icons & objects, including toys and images from art history, removing them from their original settings and re-contextualising them to generate new interpretations and meanings.
Cousins' multidisciplinary practice includes painting, printmaking, sculpture and installation that investigates radical shifts in perception, brought about by changes in post-industrial society. His thought provoking artworks hijack found objects that the artist adapts, rearranges and distorts into new works that are not restricted to a particular style. The artist - as his practice is constantly evolving as it responds to accessible materials and mediums that are available.
